Preview of Blackberry Case designs by FOC Talents

Freshfiber made the assignment for the FOC Talents program 2010-Q2 and asked the Talents to design a case for the Blackberry Bold 9700. 14 entries were submitted and Mid-July the jury will give choose the winner, but we have already selected 4 designs which will be further developed towards commercialization. Although these are just the concepts and not the final products, we could not wait to share them with you!

‘I heart downtown’ – Sam Abbott

Sam Abbott about the inspiration for his design: “The Blackberry is associated with a metropolitan and multi-tasking lifestyle, just like life in a city. The I heart downtown Blackberry case is constructed from many elements of this life, complete with skyline, cars, people, graffiti and even some pigeons. Reminding us why we love life in a city.”

‘B100’ – Peter Hermans

Peter Hermans his intro: “Ahhh…the good old days! Remember when your phone couldn’t fit in your pocket? When you could mistake your sim card for your creditcard? When simply picking up the phone was exercise in itself? No? Me neither. Still, there’s nothing wrong with nostalgia.” And then he clarifies the concept: “This Blackberry B100 case was inspired by – and is names after – the criminal mastermind from Dutch 80’s children’s show ‘ Bassie & Adriaan’. How’s that for nostalgia! Also inspired by IBM thinkpads and practically any 80’s mobile phone. It’s soo retro that it is contemporary again. Soo ugly that you will want one. Oh and the antenna may not be functional, it is retractable!”

‘Freshfibers’ – Josien Pieters

Josien Pieters about her design: “Why would you use a case only to protect your phone, when you can also use it for connecting to people, expressing your creativity or simply spicing up your Blackberry? Your freshfibers will tell a story and your case will keep evolving along with you. You start with a mono colored version matching with the designated color of your country. So now that you have your own fibers, you can start your search and swap them with users from other countries. After a trip to Australia you will have that fresh color that none of your friends have!”

‘Linguini’– Lionel Dean

Lionel Dean: “You’re serious about your networking. You need your Blackberry always to hand. You wear it around your neck in a case that holds it upside down. That way you just grab it and respond.”

Preview of new Summer Collection cases in Dubai

Christian Dijkhof of FreshFiber talks to ShuffleGazine about the new cases of the Summer Collection for iPhone and iPod Touch at DCC Middle East 2010. The Dubai technology show has the premiere of showcasing the new designs at the booth of our distributor Pro Technology.

The new collection’s design is based on traditional Arabic art, featuring a double layer that creates a very unique 3-D pattern. Christian also talks about the new collection including models that fit the iPod Touch.

FOC Talents to design innovative Blackberry case

As part of the Q2 Talents program of Freedom of Creation, Freshfiber has defined the second design brief for FOC Talents. In this assignment, 20 pre-selected Talents are challenged to design a case for the Blackberry Bold 9700. If the Talents’ entry match Freshfibers’ conditions, this product will be added to the Freshfiber collection and commercialized through its global distribution channels.

General Info

- Submission deadline: June 1st 2010
- Jury: Janne Kyttanen (FOC), Jurjen Rolf (Freshfiber) and third jury member still to be announced
- Announcement of winning Talent: June 22nd 2010 on the FOC & Freshfiber website

Prizes:

– First prize: Official press release and 250 euro in prize money.
– All entries that match the conditions of Freshfiber (sent by e-mail) will be presented on the Freshfiber website. They can be taken into commercial production under the Freshfiber label, online and through its retail channels. The name of the Talent will be incorporated in the case and will be subject to the Freshfiber designer royalty program.

Blackberry Bold, an introduction by Freshfiber

Mobile phones have entered our lives roughly 20 years ago and are now ubiquitous in our world. It is first and foremost a communication device, but often unknowingly plays a large role in our daily lives because it is always in our personal space. Not only do we hear it, we talk to it, we feel it vibrating, we watch its screen, we poke at it and show it off to friends. It goes through our fingers more often than our wallets.
The Blackberry has traditionally been popular with business people. However it has recently picked up a lot of interest from a younger audience because of its ‘Ping’ functionality; sending free messages containing texts, photo’s, movies or speech amongst Blackberry users. These ‘Ping’ messages make use of the mobile internet network of Blackberry and are a fast and handy alternative to SMS or e-mail. ‘Ping’ enables friends to share messages with each other in a very fast way: a ‘ping!’ sound indicates an incoming message and can be responded to immediately. While there are so many uses for the Blackberry, the cases that are available for it focus only on protecting your phone.

Assignment

Each Talent* is challenged to design a case for the Blackberry Bold 9700, which:
1. makes its’ use easier, more fun, or have more impact, while sharing messages and having discussions with contacts, in particular when ‘pinging’
2. makes the Blackberry Bold more appealing to a young audience
3. which protects the Blackberry from small impact as well as providing extra grip when holding the phone

In the design proposal, attention should be given to one or more specific user scenarios that are enabled by the Blackberry Bold Smartphone, given its communication with Ping and the future role of such messaging in our daily lives. Also the case should not break or deform when used or dropped by the user. Together with the design, you should write a short text accompanied with visuals to show your research and final conclusions (in pdf-format). In the design (explanation) it should be clear that 3D Printing is the only way to realize the design.

“Maille” model introduced

As part of the winter collection, but since january finally available, is the “Maille” design for iPhone case. This design features interlinked moving rings that are based on mideavil armourwear. We are pretty proud of how this one looks and even more – how it feels.

Available in Graphite, Stone White, Terracotta, and Maroon finishing.

iPhone covers launching at Gitex, Dubai

FreshFiber will introduce their Winter Collection, a range of revolutionary iPhone covers, at the Gitex Technology Week in Dubai. At the PRO TECHnology booth, samples of the 4 new models will be shown.

The designers of FreshFiber have applied multiple material finishings and multiple colors, claiming “Everybody deserves fashion to clothe and express themselves, and so do the electronics devices we use daily.”
